The Trouble With Having Michael Khrane on Your Team

Michael has a plan for everything. I have a talent for discovering exactly where those plans stop working. Somehow, we've made a pretty good team.
Michael Khrane has a particular look.
It's the look he gives me when I've just suggested something that wasn't part of the plan.
You know the one. Slightly raised eyebrow. That little pause before he answers. The unmistakable expression of someone mentally calculating how much trouble I'm about to cause.
I've become very familiar with it.
Being on a team with Michael is an interesting experience.
He's thoughtful, disciplined, and has an almost supernatural ability to remain calm when everything around us is falling apart.
I, on the other hand, occasionally believe that the best solution is to move quickly and figure out the details along the way.
We have different philosophies.
He calls it being reckless.
I call it being adaptable.
The truth is, I trust Michael more than almost anyone.
When things get complicated, and believe me, things get complicated when your job involves protecting history, he's the person who keeps us focused.
He sees possibilities that the rest of us miss.
And despite what he might tell you, he does have a sense of humour.
It's just very well hidden.
Sometimes, after a particularly exhausting mission, we'll sit quietly and talk about absolutely nothing important.
No timelines. No strategies. No impending catastrophes.
Just two people enjoying a moment when the universe isn't demanding anything from them.
Those moments mean more to me than I probably admit.
Michael might be the captain.
But underneath all that responsibility, he's also someone who cares deeply about the people standing beside him.
Even when one of those people occasionally ignores his carefully prepared instructions.
Especially then, perhaps.
And Michael, if you're reading this?
I was right about that shortcut.
Mostly.
Love, ♡
