Time travel sounds romantic until you realize that saying goodbye to someone doesn't necessarily mean you'll ever meet them again. Even when you know exactly where they are in history.

People always ask the same question when they discover what I do.

"What's the most amazing thing you've seen?"

It's a fair question.

I've seen cities before they became famous.

I've watched history unfold from places no history book could ever describe.

I've stood beneath skies that looked almost exactly like ours, knowing that everything below them was different.

But the things I remember most aren't always the extraordinary ones.

They're the ordinary moments.

A woman laughing as she closes her little shop for the evening.

A musician playing for a handful of people who don't realize they're witnessing something special.

A child asking me a question I don't quite know how to answer.

Those are the moments that stay with me.

Because here's the complicated part about travelling through time.

You meet people.

You share experiences.

You become part of their lives, even if it's only for a few hours.

And then you leave.

Sometimes you know what happens next.

Sometimes you know more than you wish you did.

And sometimes the kindest thing you can do is simply let history continue.

That's harder than it sounds.

There have been days when I've returned to The Between, closed the door behind me, and sat quietly for a very long time.

Not because anything went wrong.

Because everything went exactly the way it was supposed to.

I suppose that's the part of being a Time Warden that nobody can really prepare you for.

Learning that you can't hold on to every moment.

That some stories aren't yours to change.

And that being there, even briefly, can still mean something.

So when people ask me about the most amazing thing I've seen, I usually smile and tell them about a beautiful sunrise or an impossible city.

Those stories are easier.

The others?

I keep those a little closer.

Love, ♡
